Backpacker Hostel Aachen

Very basic, rundown hostel. Should be around €15 for the quality you get. You don't get a key. There's a combination to enter the front door, which doesn't work. The owner himself had to ring to get back inside. The rooms can't be locked. Everyone can walk in. There are no lockers to store your bag in the room. It's stuffy. The only option is put the windows wide open, which caused a massive draft and lots of noise at night. The building is next to the railway and the ring road. There are only a few plugs, so don't expect to charge your phone at night if you're on the upper bunks. Rooms were dirty. It looks like quite a few students stayed there. Quite some dirt and laptops laying around. Lack of respect with flashing lights at night. Shower was clean. Kitchen & common area: you can cook, but it could use thorough cleaning. It looks like a bad student place. The WiFi is non existing. Only one or 2 can use it at the same time. Super poor. The common area itself also only has 2 places where you can sit and charge something. One of them has a plug crammed just behind a sofa. Poor setup. Mattresses & pillows were hard as well. Only book here if you really want to save money or need something for 1 night. Proper WiFi, locks on doors, proper bed and lockers are hostel essentials. No sleep, no fun. Disappointed

I spent a month in this place during my first days in Aachen. The managers are so friendly, helpful and nice. The shared rooms are not so big, but you will find space for your clothes and charging sockets :D. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything one may need and Wi-Fi is also available. The price is among cheapest in Aachen, actually it was a great experience wish it is informative for all.

To join other comments, the hostel is globally clean, the staff welcomed me very nicely. I'm bike touring, and they allowed me to store my bike downstairs safely. However, maybe a lack of luck for me, I got into a room with someone who smelled cigarette very much (and snored very loudly but I guess that's part of any hostel) and there was no plug near my bed to charge my phone and listen to music to get to sleep. Also in the room I was, we do hear the train. So 4 stars for the train and the plugs.
